Since pre-independence period, the Amreli region had remained outstanding in the sphere of the education. Late Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gayakwad, a great social reformer and educationist made the free and compulsory education at primary level. When education facility was less excluding certain considerable states in the region, Amreli remained outstanding in imparting education not only to male students but female students too. Amreli being the chief city of the district, Government schools had to be opened for education. Private schools also had to be started. Several communities built up “Chhatralayas” in Amreli so that their children could get education staying at concerned community “Chhatralaya”.
