The Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute became a Constituent Institute of the University of Allahabad on July 14, 2005, when the University of Allahabad Act, 2005 came into force. Established in 1980 as one in the network of Social Science Research Institutes, which Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) set up in association with the State Governments, in our case, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the Institute entered privileges of the University of Allahabad in 2005. The Institute undertakes interdisciplinary research in the field of social sciences.The main areas of research at the Institute include development planning and policy, environment, health and population, human development, rural development and management, culture, power and change, democracy and institutions.The Institute has a doctoral programme in social sciences and a MBA Rural Development Programme. In both programmes the degree is awarded by the University of Allahabad.
Seminar Hall: The Institute has a seminar hall and a committee room suitably furnished for organizing seminars, workshops, symposium and lectures with all necessary projection facilities like LCD, Overhead Projector, Slide Projector, white board and public address system. This facility is also extended to the MBA (RD) students for presentation of their reports, debates and seminars. The Seminar Hall and committee room have the capacity to hold meetings and conferences for about 50 to 60 participants.
Auditorium: The Institute has a centrally air- conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 300. Other than the main hall it also has two additional rooms and one large lobby adjoining it. All the cultural activities, training programs and documentary films related to studies are arranged here. It is also used for organizing seminars and conferences as well as our annual development professionals' meet.
Classrooms: The Institute has well furnished classrooms, air- conditioned and well equipped with modern teaching aids and designed for participate learning.
Library: A well stocked library is the hallmark of any Institution of learning. The Institute has a large and modern library that serves as a national collection of books, archival material, journals and recent documentation for studies and research and development, management and ethnography. The Institute's library is recognized as a national center of information and regional resource center. It has over 50,000 books, archival material and documentation of studies and research in almost all social science disciplines and subscribes 150 national and international journals. The library has access to Inflibnet. It is fully air conditioned with huge hall for reading purposes with necessary facilities like computer, photocopier, microfilm reader etc.
Computer Center: The Institute is fully equipped with latest IT infrastructure, which includes two Servers (HCL Infiniti Global Line Server Intel Xeon Two Processor Quad Core), 67 HP Thin Clients), 40 Desktops and 10 Laptops connected with wired as well as wireless network. Software like SPSS, ArcGIS, ERDAS, Gram Plus, Libsys, Microsoft Project, Microsoft office and Tally 9 ERP are available. The Institute has also subscribed for Inflibnet which enabled the scholars for accessing all reputed journals online.The Institute has 10 MBPS 1:1 leased line internet connectivity. The internet and LAN is extended to the faculty quarters and hostel also. Further, the Institute is planning to integrate all the isolated computerized units to one platform for moving towards ERP solution, which will ensure transparency and security and help in managing redundancy.
Sports Facility: The Institute has a well equipped indoor games room and a court each for basket ball, volley ball and badminton.

Mess: The Institute has a mess that caters to the needs of the students and the guest scholars with the seating capacity of fifty. It is managed by the students' welfare committee.
Hostel Facility
