The Institute started functioning as College of Medical Sciences in 1960 with nine departments of Modern Medicine and eight departments of Ayurveda, under the leadership of Dr. K.N. Udupa, the Founder Director of the Institute. In 1971, the College of Medical Sciences, was upgraded to Institute of Medical Sciences.

1 .	Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
	Eligibility Passed Intermediate Science/Pre-Medical Course/12 year of 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination may also apply.
	Duration 5 & 1/2 yrs
	Admission Procedure On the basis of All India Combined Competitive Written Test (PMT/PAT) conducted by the Institute and interview
	Other Details Age : Completed 17 years but not crossed 25 years as on 31st December of the year of admission.

2 .	Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
	Eligibility Passed Intermediate Science/Pre-Medical Course/12 year of 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination may also apply.
