Guru Nanak College of Education For Women has been established in 1966 on the name of Great Guru i.e. Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Motto of this institution is based on the philosophy of Guru Nanak “Truth is higher but still higher is truthful living”. The College has celebrated its Silver Jubilee in December’1991 with great fervour and enthusiasm. The college is affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Recognized by UGC, NCTE and accredited by NAAC. To inculcate social values in the students and to make them confident, morning assemblies etc. are organised. Which are dedicated to different issues like women’s education, global warming, population control and AIDS. The students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities and sports. The institution takes the responsibility of not only imparting the training theoretically, but also stressing on school teaching practice , performance and skill development to produce dynamic teachers, who will help in the development of the nation.
The college has well equipped Library, Science Laboratory, Psychology Lab, Language Room, Maths Room, Laboratory, Art Room, Technology Laboratory, Social Studies Laboratory & Computer Room. To enrich the knowledge of the students and staff, the institution has a spacious library. The library remains open on all the working days of the college and its working hours are same as the college working hours. In educational technology laboratory, instructions are given to the students about the use of technology in the field of education. For this purpose, there are various technological instruments like over-head projector, television, camera, laptop, tape-recorder and the last but not the least computer with internet facility.
