Loyola College of Education is a Catholic, Private, Minority institution situated at Namchi, the South District of Sikkim in a sprawling and picturesque ten acres of land at the foothills of the Himalayas. It was started in response to the request of the Government of Sikkim and is named after St Ignatius of Loyola, the Founder of the Society of Jesus.
The Society of Jesus was founded in 1540 by St Ignatius of Loyola and its members are popularly known as the Jesuits. It is an International Catholic Religious Order with its members engaged in activities such as Education, Social Action, Legal Aid, Communication, Pastoral Works, Adult and Rural Literacy Programmes, Environmental studies etc.
Library:The library of Loyola College of Education is a hub of academic and research activities. The library has potential collection of valuable rare books, reference books, important journals and educational CDs and DVDs for the use of students, staff, non teaching staff and the alumni of the College. The total number of books in the library at present is 7000+, and the number of periodicals subscribed to is 19. The library provides current awareness services to the readers through newspapers. clippings, newsletters etc.
It is equipped with broadband internet connection and printer. Students are encouraged to make the best use of the facilities made available.
Hostel Facility
Loyola College of Education, Namchi provides two hostels, one for men and the other for women. Each of these hostels has an intake capacity of fifty, (shared rooms), making up the total of a hundred in the hostels. Apart from these two hostels, there is also a Jesuit staff residence.
