For Admission to Undergraduate Programs at Indian Institutes of Technology

Bhilai, Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, (ISM) Dhanbad, Dharwad, Gandhinagar, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi, Palakkad, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar, Tirupati and (BHU) Varanasi.

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) forms the basis for admission to the following programs (entry at the 10+2 level) in Engineering, Science and Architecture in all the IITs:

4-year Bachelors: B.Tech., B.S.
5-year B. Arch.
5-year Dual Degree: B.Tech.- M.Tech., B.S.- M.S.
5-year Integrated Masters: M.Tech., M.Sc. Dual Degree

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for JEE (Advanced) 2024

A candidate, including a foreign national, must fulfill each and every one of the following five criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2024.

Criterion 1 – Performance in JEE (Main) 2024.
The candidate should be among the top 2,50,000* (including all categories) in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2022.
The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are: 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and the remaining 50.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these four categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.
Criterion 2 – Age limit.
Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995. Five years relaxation is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates, i.e., these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1990.
Criterion 3 – Number of attempts.
A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Criterion 4 – Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination.
A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2019 or 2022.
However, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declares the results for the academic year 2017-19 after June 2018, then the candidates of that board who appeared for their class XII exam in 2018 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2022, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria. In case, the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2017-18 before June 2018 but the result of a particular candidate was withheld, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2021.
Criterion 5 – Earlier admission at IITs.
A candidate should NOT have been admitted in an IIT irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the program OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting centre in the past. Candidates whose admission at IITs was cancelled after joining any IIT are also NOT eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2022.
Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2019 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2022.
The candidates who paid seat acceptance fee in 2022but (i) did not report at any reporting centre OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, during the joint seat allocation in 2021, are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2021.
However, in any of the above cases, the candidate is required to fulfil the conditions mentioned from Criterion 1 to Criterion 4.

* The total number of candidates may be slightly higher than 2,50,000 in the presence of “tied” ranks/scores in any category.

Foreign Nationals must fulfill Eligibility Criteria 2, 3, 4 and 5, as mentioned above, for appearing in JEE (A dvanced) 2022.

Reservation

Reservations are provided to Indian Nationals belonging to certain categories in accordance with the rules of the Government of India and such candidates are declared as qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2024 based on relaxed norms.

Candidates qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2024 will be eligible for admission to the mentioned academic programs at IITs subject to satisfying at least one of the following two criteria:

1. Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 65%.
2. Must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) Board Examination.

Candidates who are eligible for admission will have to participate in joint seat allocation process by filling in their choices of the courses. The schedule of the joint seat allocation will be announced by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2022.

JEE (Advanced) Examination

JEE (Advanced) 2024 will have two papers. Both the papers are compulsory. Each paper is of 3 hours duration and will have questions in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The complete examination will be conducted in COMPUTER BASED TEST (CBT) MODE ONLY. The questions will be in both English and Hindi languages. The candidates will have the option to choose the preferred language during the examination. The JEE (Advanced) 2021 is organized by IIT Kanpur.

Examination Cities

JEE (Advanced) 2024 will be held in selected cities and towns in India and in a few foreign countries. The candidates will give their preference for cities to write the examination at the time of registration.

Candidates declared eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2024 must register online at the JEE (Advanced) web portal by uploading the requisite documents and by paying the registration fee as per the details given below:

Indian Nationals (including PIO/OCI)

Female candidates (all categories): Rs. 1400
SC, ST, PwD candidates: Rs. 1400
For all other candidates: Rs. 2800

Foreign Nationals

Candidates from SAARC countries: USD 75
Candidates from Non-SAARC countries: USD 150

Registration Fee for CBT in Foreign Countries

All Indian Nationals (including PIO/OCI): USD 75
Candidates from SAARC countries: USD 75
Candidates from Non-SAARC countries: USD 150
