Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER), under the Government of India since 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions in India. Spread over a sprawling 195-acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), JIPMER is 170 km. by road from Chennai.
JIPMER has been declared an “Institution of National Importance” by an Act of Parliament, JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was notified by Gazette on 14-7-2008 to enforce this Act. Before this, the Institute was functioning under the administrative control of the Directorate General of Health Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
The Institution is powered to award Medical Degrees under clauses 23 & 24 of the said Act. Such Degrees shall be deemed to be included in the schedules of the respective Acts governing the Medical Council of India/National Medical Commission (NMC), entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the recognized Universities of India.
JIPMER offers undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and super specialty courses in various medical and nursing disciplines.
The Combined Entrance Test (CET) for admission into July 2024 session of
postgraduate courses [MD, MS, DM (6 yrs), MCh (6 yrs) and MDS] at Institutes of
National Importance (INIs) for
Medical Education namely, AIIMS-New Delhi and
all new AIIMS, JIPMER-Puducherry, NIMHANSBengaluru, PGIMER-Chandigarh and
SCTIMST- Trivandrum will be held in the month of May, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The candidates must possess MBBS or an equivalent Degree recognized by the Medical Council of India.
DURATION
The duration of t he MD/MS/MDS courses a re 3 ye ars, that is, 36 months.
The duration of 6- year MCh courses is 6 year s, that is, 72 months.
CENTER OF EXAMINATION
The INI-CET, July 2024 session is planned to be conducted in around 100 to 135 cities spread across India.
