The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level(CHSL) exam every year for recruitment in various Departments/ Ministries/ Organizations of the Government of India. The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2,CHSL) Exam for recruitment to various posts like:
- Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC).
- Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants(PA/SA)
- Court Clerk and
- Data Entry Operator (DEO).
Eligibility Criteria
Age limit as on January 1, 2025:
- Candidates must be aged between 18 years and 27 years
- Candidates must not have born before January 2, 1995 and after January 01,
2004
Educational Qualifications required for SSC CHSL 2025:
- Candidates, applying for the recruitment exam, must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized Board.
- Degree obtained through open Universities/Distance Education Mode must be recognised by Distance Education Council, IGNOU.
- Unless such Degrees had been recognised for the period when the candidates acquired the relevant qualification, they will not be accepted for the purpose of Educational Qualification.
- The appearing candidates, who will get the educational qualification certificate from their respective Board/University, are also eligible for the appearing in the recruitment exam.
- The candidates, who are called for appearing at the Typing Test/Skill Test, are required to produce the relevant Certificate in Original format such as Mark sheets, Provisional Certificate, etc.
- Candidates, failing to produce the original documents, will get their candidature cancelled by the Commission.
- The candidates, who prove by documentary evidence that the result of the qualifying examination was announced on or before the specified date and he/she has been declared passed, will also be considered of having the required Educational Qualification.
- If a candidate obtained a degree through open Universities/Distance Education Mode, it must be recognized by Distance Education Council, IGNOU.
Nationality/Citizenship:
A candidate must be either:
- a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
Exam Pattern
There are three levels in SSC CHSL exam that have to be cleared by the candidates in order to get selected for various posts in the Government Offices. SSC CHSL Tier I is Objective Multiple Choice Question, Tier II is Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi and Tier III is Computer Proficiency Test.

 SSC CHSL Tier-II Exam Pattern
SSC CHSL Tier-II is a descriptive test that is designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The paper would demand writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent.
- The exam is of 60 minutes’ duration and carries 100 marks.
- The questions are based on 10th level.
- The exam is qualifying in nature.
- The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.
SSC CHSL Tier-III Exam Pattern:
The Tier 3 of SSC CGL Exam 2025 comprises of a couple of skill tests which are required for certain government posts.
Application fee and mode of fee payment:
Fee payable: Rs. 100/-(Rupees One Hundred only).
Fee can be paid through SBI Challan/ SBI Net Banking or by using Visa/ Mastercard/ Maestro Credit/ Debit card.
