Pradhan Mantri Vidya Lakshmi Karyakram (PMVLK) - Indian Government's initiative to provide education loans to needy students.
There are lots of talented students in India who find financial problems as a hurdle in the path of their success. Our Government seems concerned about this very subject and a new scheme named as- Pradhan Mantri Vidya Lakshmi Karyakram has been launched in 15th August 2015 to provide education loans for the students seeking Higher Education.
Any students visiting the portal can make use of various facilities online. The portal provides complete details of latest education loan schemes from various banks. It is possible to easily apply for education loan from one place using CELAF. A common education Loan application Form (CELAF) is made available to the students. Banks will have the facility to download the applications submitted by the students at the portal. Any individual who have applied for the education loan can check the processing status easily. Also if the student is having any guery related to the loan, it can be asked at the portal. National scholarship portal is also linked with the Vidya Lakshmi Portal.
Features of Vidya Lakshmi Portal
Vidya Lakshmi Portal has been developed and maintained by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Department of Higher Education, Indian Banks Association and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. This portal is a gateway for all students to access funds and information related to educational loans as well as government scholarships. It provides a single window to students applying for loans or scholarship by filling up a single form.
The basic objective of the scheme is to provide easy and effective system of getting educational loans so that no student leaves his or her education mid-way due to lack of funds.
The portal provides 22 different education loan schemes. It has the following features:
How to apply Loan through Vidya Lakshmi Portal
The applicant must register and login to Vidya Lakshmi portal and then fill-up the Common Education Loan Application Form (CELAF) by providing all the necessary details. The Common Educational Loan Application Form is the single form which students can fill to apply for Educational Loan to multiple banks / schemes. CELAF is the application form prescribed by Indian Banks Association (IBA) and accepted by all banks.
After filling the form, the applicant can search for Educational Loan and APPLY as per his/her needs, eligibility and convenience. Based on the eligibility criteria, the portal itself suggests the various schemes for which a student is eligible.
A student can apply to a maximum of three Banks through Vidya Lakshmi portal using CELAF. The interest rate will be as per the applicable rules of an individual bank.
Once registration is done and the CELAF is filled, you will be updated about your loan approval or disapproval on the portal. The Bank will update the status of the application on Vidya Lakshmi portal. Students can view the status of the application on the applicant's dashboard on the portal.
If your loan is approved, the loan amount will be transferred directly to your account. If your loan is disapproved, you have to contact the bank itself. You may also get an ON HOLD update on your loan status. It means that the bank requires more information from your end, which will be mentioned in the remark column. E-mail and SMS alert will also be generated for processing of scholarship. To know more, contact the bank you have selected.
