The S.K.P. Government Degree College was established by leading citizens of Guntakal Town in Ananthapuram District in 1968 to make higher education accessible to the common people in the region . The College has been named after Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari , the deity of Local vysya community who provided the funding of Rs 1 Lakh .n the beginning the college started functioning in a make shift tin roofed market yard sheds and continued there up to 1984 , when it was shifted to the present permanent campus in the outskirts of the town built over an area of 16.75 acres of land . The college is affiliated to Sri Krishnadevaraya University , Ananthapuram. The institution has got UGC recognition under sections 2(f) and 12(b) in 1970 and 1986 .
Library: Our library contains around 26000 books and subscribes to 13 journals . An SC/ST book bank scheme is started for the benefit and welfare of SC/ST students. Books worth 6.78 Lakhs were purchased under the scheme and All SC and ST students are very much benefitted from the scheme.
Games and Sports: The Physical education department has achieved good success in this year . our students were winners and secured 1st prize in Intercollegiate University level games in KHO-KHO . Both Boys and Girls won Championships in Kho-Kho.Our Men Badminton team won 1st prize in Badminton championship.Our students were selected for to represent SK university team.5 players in Kho-Kho , 2 in Badminton , one each in kabadi, football, and atheletics are in university team . Smt R. Jayalakshmi is the Physical Director.
