Government Arts College for Women, Salem-8 is the only Government college for women in the entire Salem District. It is built on a sprawling area of 14.71 acres, at the foothills of Yercaud, a beautiful hill resort of TamilNadu. The college was started as a Government men’s college in 1972 and was converted into a Government Women’s college in 1979.

Computer Literacy Program - CLP: This programme was introduced by the Tamilnadu Government in 2005, in tie-up with a private concern, Ravichandra System and Computer Services, Coimbatore, for a period of 5 years from 25/11/2005 onwards. At present the programme is carried out by the institution itself. This programme is introduced solely for the benefit of the I year non-computer science students.
Library: Our library has close to 45,000 books which stimulate and encourage our students to learn beyond the textbooks. The book bank helps poor students meet their requirements for textbooks
