Goa University, established in June 1985 by an Act of Goa Government, is located on a picturesque campus spread over 427.49 acres area of Taleigao Plateau overlooking the Zuari Estuary, within close vicinity of the capital city of Panaji, in North Goa. Besides being the most important location for post-graduate studies, it also serves as the academic nerve-centre of the higher education system in Goa. Today Goa University, is a university of affiliated colleges, 55 of which are distributed across Goa, 30 in general education, 25 in professional education. Presently, Goa University has 12 faculties of which 6 faculties operate on the campus with 24 Departments and 3 Research Centers that offer post-graduate education in the State of Goa.(Ranked 14th among the Top Universities of India (India Today - AC Nielsen, 2014)
Remote sensing laboratory: Remote sensing laboratory is a facility created in Goa University as a grant -in -aid project from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The Laboratory was established in the year 2000 as an independent laboratory and housed in the zoology building.
Campus Network and Internet Facility:All the administrative sections and academic departments on the campus are connected through the campus wide network reaching at every desktop, currently operating at bandwidth of 1000 Mbps. The entire network has been set up using standard fiber optic backbone technology for long haul links and cat 6 structured copper cabling within the building.
Computer Centre: The University has Central Computing facilities at its Computer Centre. The Computer Centre extends required assistance to the teachers, students and Research Scholars in Computer related activities. The Computer Centre takes up any kind of DTP jobs, on request. Good quality of Laser printing facility, black or colour, is available in the Computer Centre at nominal charges. The primary job of Computer Centre, however, is computerization of various activities of Administration, Finance, Academic and Examination. Besides that, the Computer Centre is also maintaning the University network, Internet services and the University Web site.
Health Centre: The Goa University Health Centre is set up on the University campus for the benefit of students and staff members of the University. One Medical officer and one Staff Nurse are always available on duty during office hours.
Guest House: Goa University Guest House is located on the picturesque Taleigao Plateau overlooking the Zuari River. The serene atmosphere of the plateau and academic temperament on the campus gives a perfect and soothing feel to the guests at the Guest House. In all there are 40 odd rooms in the Guest House comprising AC, VIP and Standard guest rooms.
Hostel Facility
The University provides hostel facilities on the University Campus for men and women students to accommodate 160 Male and 200 Female students in the respective hostels. Students studying in the post-graduate courses of the University will be accommodated in the hostel, subject to availability of seats, there is also limited hostel accommodation possible for research students
