Matushri Virbaima Mahila College was established in 1963 offering courses in the Arts faculty. In the year in 1970 and 1980 with the vision to create and awareness for science amongst girls, Science and Home Science faculty respectively were added to the existing college and the college was named Matushri Virbaima Mahila Arts, Science and Home Science College. The College was bifurcated from the Arts faculty in 1989 and came to be known as Matushri Virbaima Mahila Science and Home Science College. The college is recognized by the UGC under clause 2(f) and 12(b). The college is now a leading institute providing scientific education to the conservative segment of the regional society. The college showed its distinctive characteristics by in introducing the subject of Microbiology in 1970 and the Home Science faculty in 1980.
Auditorium: The college has always encouraged students to participate in co-curricular activities. The institution believes that the aim of education is to achieve an overall development of students. The college has an auditorium hall with a sitting capacity of about 700 to organize cultural programmes and academic events such as seminars, conferences and workshops. It is a space where we congregate —- to celebrate, to debate, to discuss, to contemplate and sometimes even to mourn collectively.
Laboratory: The college has well equipped chemistry laboratory, microbiology laboratory, physics laboratory, biology laboratory, foods & nutrition laboratory, clothing & textile laboratory.
Library: The Central Library of the institution plays a proactive role to ensure that the information resources are acquired and organized to meet the present and future needs of its users. It is central and common to all the academic activities of the college. It provides a place to study, material for study and services to assist study. Faculty and students have access to library from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.The library is equipped with about 5000 books on various subjects such as Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Biology, Foods and Nutrition, Family Resource Management, Clothing and Textile, Extension Education etc. We aim to develop a comprehensive collection of information resources that are useful for academic and research purposes.
