Sri Sarada College of Education, Salem was started in 1968-1969 affiliated to University of Madras. Autonomy was granted from 1988-89. Since 2008, the college is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai. The college has been recognised by the NCTE. In 2007, the College was reaccredited with "A" Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.Sri Sarada College of Education is run by Sri Sarada College Educational Trust, Salem and managed by the Yatiswaris of Sri Sarada Samithi, Salem.
