At the University Campus, the Department of Sociology was comparatively a late entry in the year 1998 among the faculty of Social Sciences which was started under the Chairmanship of Dr. Amir Singh, Professor of Psychology and the then Dean of Academic Affairs. The subject was started with a view to develop a multitude of trained Sociology workers especially in the Northern part of Haryana with an intake of 30 students and with a newly prepared course design, under annual exam system.
The Department has good quality physical and social infrastructure which helped produce comparatively a larger number of NET/JRFs.; The Department maintains a Library presently with more than 800books with a rich accession thereof under the liberal grants provided by the University Authority, operationalised through JLN Central Library. The accession of quality books and other reference material is supplemented by online journals, available to the teachers and students that help extend their horizon of knowledge. The Library is housed with a good ambiance within its walls.
