Department of Chemistry was incepted as a Teaching Dept. in the year 1980 in the erstwhile P.G centre of Madurai Kamaraj University and later in 1990 September it was inducted in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli when this University was officially commissioned. Now this dept. has flourished in to a bigger Teaching – cum– research dept. secured the status of DST FIST (Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India) sponsorship and remains one of the few active departments of this University.
