Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India offers National Overseas Scholarship for Schedule Tribe (ST) Students for pursuing their Master's Level, PhD Level and Post-Doctoral Level courses.

This Central Scheme of National Overseas Scholarships for Scheduled Tribe (ST) Students was introduced by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to provide financial assistance to meritorious students for pursuing higher studies in foreign university.

No. of Scholarships

20 awards per year would be sanctioned to ST students as under:

-Scheduled Tribes: 17
-Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PTG): 03

Duration of the Scholarship:

Scholarships are provided only upto the completion of studies or the following period whichever is earlier:

Post-Doctoral:1and ½ years
PhD: 4 years
Master’s Degree:3 years

Scholarship reward covers :

The Annual maintenance allowance in US will be US Dollars 15,400 ($ Fifteen thousand four hundred only) for all level of courses covered under the Scheme. The annual maintenance allowance for candidates in United Kingdom will be Pound sterling 9,900 (£ Nine thousand nine hundred only) for all levels of courses covered under the scheme. For other countries, US Dollar or equivalent rates would be applicable
The Annual Contingency and Equipment Allowance for books/essential apparatus/study tour/typing and binding of thesis etc. will be $ 1532 (US Dollars One thousand five hundred thirty two only)
for the candidates in US and for candidates in United Kingdom, it will be £1116 (Pounds sterling One thousand one hundred sixteen only). For other countries, US Dollar or equivalent rates would be applicable.
Poll tax and visa fees are also payable under this scheme in Indian rupees.Incidental journey expenses of up to USD 18.70 or its equivalent in Indian rupees.
Tuition fee, medical insurance premium and cost of air passage will also be paid
Medical Insurance Premium : Actual as charged will be admissible.
Cost of Air Passage : Air passage grant on actual basis from India to the nearest place to the educational institution and back to India, by economy class and shortest route in arrangements with
the national carrier, shall be provided.
Local Travel : Second or Coach class railway fare from the port of disembarkation to the place of study and back and in case of far flung places not connected by rail, bus fare(s) from the place of residence to the nearest railway station, actual charge of crossing by ferry, air fare to the nearest rail-cum-air Station and/or II class railway fare by the shortest route to the port of embarkation and back will be permissible.
All the awardees already undergoing studies abroad would also be eligible to receive the revised rates as approved in the scheme and its modified form with prospective effect.

Eligibility

For Post-Doctoral courses: Candidates must have Scored 55% or equivalent grades in relevant Master and PhD Program with a desirable professional/research/teaching experience of 5 years in the concerned field
For Ph.D. degree: Scored 55% or equivalent grades in relevant master's program with a desirable professional/research/teaching experience or M.Phill degree of 2 years in the concerned field
For Master's degree: Scored 55% or equivalent grade in relevant bachelor's degree with a desirable working experience of 2 years in the concerned field
Annual family income less than INR 6 Lac from all sources

Age Criteria The candidates must be below 35 years of age as on 01st July 2017

Selection Procedure

All applications received within the stipulated period, will be put before the Screening Committee for short-listing of the applications. The candidates short listed by the Screening Committee will be required to present themselves for personal interview before the Selection Committee

The merit list prepared, on the basis of assessment of individual candidates, by the Selection Committee, will finally and decisively complete the selection procedure to decide the merit. Call letters to eligible candidates will be posted on the Ministry's website for interview

The candidates shall, after assessing their eligibility and suitability, as per conditions of the scheme, apply to this Ministry online within last date of applying for the same. Candidates will have to furnish their e-mail id, Aadhaar number and mobile number in the application form.
