Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI) Pune, an Autonomous Institute under the Dept. of Social Justice & Special Assistance, Govt. of Maharashtra provides Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research Fellowship (BANRF) for Scheduled Caste Students to pursue M.Phil/Ph.D full-time Programs. The aim of the fellowship is to provide financial assistance to the SC candidates to undertake advanced studies and research in Indian Universities/Institutions / Colleges approved under  the UGC Act and in Non-Universities / Institutions. 

In 1913, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar undertook a historic journey to Columbia University, New York for Higher Studies. In commemoration of this, BARTI launched Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowship (BANRF) in 2013and every year, BARTI offers the Award of M.Phil. / Ph.D. Fellowships to Scheduled Caste candidates of Maharashtra. The number of fellowships awarded each year would be equivalent to the number of years since 1913 i.e. 101 for 2014, 102 for 2015 and so on. The fellowship scheme is formulated and funded by BARTI and named as "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowships (BANRF)."

Provisions

The Fellowship is provided to One Hundred and Two (102) fellows. This number may increase or decrease. 5 0% fellowships are reserved for SC women candidates and 3% fellowships are reserved for SC persons with disability.

The Fellows will receive  Rs.25000/- p.m. for initial two years and Rs.28000/- p.m. for remaining tenure. The fellows pursuing research in Humanities & Social Sciences will also get a Contingency grant of Rs.12000/- p.m. for initial two years and Rs.20500/- p.m. for remaining tenure and Sciences, Engg & Technology students will get Contingency grant of Rs.12000/- p.m. for initial two years and Rs.25000/- p.m. for remaining tenure for all disciplines.

The fellows of all disciplines will also receive Department Assistance of Rs.3000/- p.m. per students to the host institution for providing infrastructure  and Escorts/Reader assistance of Rs.2000/- p.m. in case of physically handicapped & blind candidates 
+ HRA as per rules of the University / Institutions.

The actual payment of the fellowship will be made with effect from the date of joining or the date of approval of fellowship – whichever is later.

Selection:

Final selection will be decided by BARTI on the basis of the merit of the candidates. All candidates will have to undergo a process of Interviews through a Committee constituted by BARTI for being selected for the fellowship.

Candidates should download the application form from institute website barti.maharashtra.gov.in and then send the duly filled applications along with the attested copies of all necessary documents and Research Proposal including concept note containing research details, etc. in about 2000 words by Registered Post to the Director General, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research & Training Institute, 28, Queen's Garden, Camp, Pune-411001.
