The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, established in 2007, is a multi and interdisciplinary centre. International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bengaluru provides S. N. Bhatt Memorial Excellence Fellowship for academically bright and motivated  undergraduate/masters students of Science and Engineering at ICTS.

This program offers a unique opportunity to undergraduate/masters students of Science and Engineering to work with faculty and post-doctoral fellows of the Centre and to participate in research at the frontiers of knowledge.

Bring together physicists, astronomers, cosmologists, mathematicians, biologists, students and researchers from all over the world, under one roof, to work together to solve the most challenging questions posed by nature, to discover the underlying structures across the sciences and to strive for the unity of knowledge

Research Areas 

ICTS contributes to research excellence in science in various ways. It has a high quality faculty together with a large floating population comprising visitors, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.

Currently ICTS faculty is engaged in research in areas that include statistical and condensed matter physics, complex systems and fluid dynamics, physical biology, several topics in interdiscipinary mathematics, gravitational wave astronomy and numerical relativity, string theory and quantum gravity.

Their eminence attracts the brightest students and postdoctoral researchers as well as outstanding organizers and participants for the Centre’s programs.

ICTS plans to expand its research profile in several new directions of mathematics, computer science and quantitative biology. ICTS also has a wide group of associated faculty, who are deeply involved in various activities of the Centre.

Eligibility Criteria :

Undergraduate students of science, mathematics and engineering, who are in their third, fourth or fifth year of the program are eligible to apply. Exceptional undergraduates in their second year may also apply. Masters degree students and those who have completed their undergraduate are also welcome to apply. 

How to apply

Interested candidates should apply online https://forms.icts.res.in/summer-program/ with their CV and relevant details. The applicants also need to arrange at least two recommendation letters. Applications will be normally reviewed around February/March every year.
