North South Foundation (NSF) is a volunteer driven non-profit organization established in 1989.
Objective is to
• Develop human resources by giving scholarships to brilliant but needy students in India entering colleges, regardless of religion, gender, caste or creed
• Promote excellence in human endeavor by organizing Educational Contests for the kids in USA
• Help people achieve success regardless of religion, gender, caste, geographic origin by giving hope to those who may have none
The NSF Scholarship program in India provides scholarships to needy children who display academic excellence in India. NSF has distributed more than 1000 scholarships to students who need financial assistance. Assistance is given to undergraduate students entering into engineering, medicine or 3-year polytechnic (diploma in engineering) based on merit and financial need. NSF also considers BVSc, BSc Ag, B Pharma and Nursing courses. NSF uses uniform eligibility criteria to identify poor but meritorious students across chapters. Chapters are there in almost all main cities. For chapter list go through the official site.
The scholarship is an annual award and not a one-time payment. The student is eligible for the scholarship until graduation as long as he/she maintains high academic standards. NSF funds these scholarships by raising donations in the US. The local chapters located in various states in India do the commendable job of advertising to invite applications from students, screening these applications and selecting the most needy group of students who eventually become NSF scholarship recipients. Scholarship amounts range from INR 8,000 to INR 25,000 per student year.
Apart from reviewing academic records and income statements, NSF will also review the special circumstances under which the student is submitting his / her application. No assistance is provided for students at the high school level and those at the graduate (Master's) level in this category of scholarships.
Eligibility criteria for scholarships are listed below .
