Shell Junior National Science Scholarship is conducted by Shell India in partnership with the British Council and with National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) as the knowledge partner. Royal Dutch Shell is one of the largest and most diversified international investor in India's energy sector among all global integrated oil companies with nearly US$1 billion invested already. It is the only global major to have a fuel retail license in India.

Shell Junior National Science Scholars programme creates a linkage between India's fascination with technical education. The scholarship programme was implemented by the British Council in India and it aims at encouraging high-school students to look at a career in engineering.

Shell Junior National Science Scholarship is a one and a half hour examination for the students of Class IX and X. The examination will comprise mainly objective type questions on science topics (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and energy-related issues. There will be one subjective type question. The answer to the subjective question will serve as a tie-breaker and only be assessed if scores of the winning students stand equal. The language of question paper will be English only.

How to Register

Registration Rules

For registration, please visit the official website of Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (www.bitm.gov.in) and go to the 'Shell Junior National Science Scholarship' menu. Fill in the required information of the school and click on the 'Submit' button (before submitting, make sure that the information provided is correct)

An automated e-mail will be sent to the registered mail ID. Open the e-mail and click on the link for activation provided in the e-mail.

After activation, visit www.bitm.gov.in again and log in for enrolment of the students using the registered username and password. Enter the name, date of birth, sex and class of the participating students and name of mentor teacher. Check carefully the correctness of the information before clicking on the ‘Submit’ button. Once submitted, data cannot be changed, nor any request can be entertained for changing the data. Your registration is now complete.

Take a print out of the ‘Registration Form’ and get it signed by the Principal/ Head of the institution. Please send the signed copy in a sealed envelope superscribed “Registration Form - SJNSS” by speed post/courier to: Dr. A. Mondal, Curator, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, 19A Gurusaday Road, Kolkata -700019.

Scholarship Prizes

The examination will be held simultaneously in 7 cities across India. Participating schools will be notified about the exact locations of the exam centres 3 weeks prior to the exam.
