Sophia is a reputed institution in service of humanity performing its mission with utmost integrity, excellence and public respect. Sophia has a Board of Directors (BoD) in the USA and an Advisory Committee (AC) in Chennai, India. The members of the BoD and AC are dedicated, philanthropic professionals who volunteer their effort for Sophia with integrity and fairness. Sophia's mission is to improve the lives of deserving and financially disadvantaged families through the gift of education (Vidhya Dhaan) to the academically outstanding students to enable them to attain their full potential.

Sophia Merit Scholarship is an award given by Sophia Board to Students who are financially backward with meritorious academic profile. This Scholarship provides financial assistance to eight new deserving students each year. Merit Scholarships will be awarded to students for pursuing Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Medicine after completion of higher secondary education. This Scholarship covers areas on tuition, boarding, lodging and other education-related costs. The Scholarship is provided to all deserving candidates regardless of race, religion, caste, sex, language and location within India. Therefore, there is no special reservation for any caste group in this Scholarship. As Sophia provides a pathway for financially backward students, they should participate in Sophia's mission when they become successful in life. They provide about Rs.1,00,000 for engineering and Rs.1,10,000 for medicine. This amount covers the expenses of tuition, boarding and lodging for the entire degree program.

Eligibility

Prospective Candidates should fulfill the following eligibility to be considered for Sophia Scholarship

Should have completed Higher Secondary Education
Should be interested in Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Medicine in a recognized College or University in India
Should have secured admission for the academic year 2014-2015
Only students who secure admission by merit will be considered. Students who secure admission by paying Capitation fee will not be considered for Scholarship
Only students entering College in First Year are eligible to apply
Students should demonstrate Financial Need.

Prospective scholars will be selected from applicants who meet all the above requirements. Selection will be based purely on Merit and demonstrated financial need.

Candidates provisionally selected for Sophia Scholarship will be informed of the decision by end of November/December

Attachments

Completed Application form
Proof of Admission in the Engineering/Medical College in the respective academic year
Attested copy of the higher Secondary Mark Sheet (+2). Attestation can be done by any Gazette officer of the State/Central Government or Head master of the School Studied or by the Principal/Dean or Head of the Department of the present college
Proof of Income of the parents from Employer or appropriate authorities as the case may be.

Application with insufficient information will be summarily rejected without any further correspondence.
