To impart training in industrial security aspects for various categories
of new incumbents and service personnel, CISF has one training academy,
NISA (National Industrial Security Academy) and 6 RTCs (Recruit Training
Centers) located all over India. The new entrants at the entry level of
constable, ASI/Clk, SI, AC are put to rigorous training for a period of
36 weeks, 18 weeks, 50 weeks and 52 weeks respectively in various fields
like weaponry, criminal jurisprudence, industrial law and other specialised
training.
Training Academy
NISA (National Industrial Security Academy) is located in Hyderabad.
It conducts some specialised courses like Advance Industrial Security
Management Course, Legal and Establishment course, Intelligence course
for supervisory officers and Senior managers of the public undertakings.
The CISF Fire Services Training Wing (FSTI) is also located at NISA Hyderabad
for basic and advanced level fire training programmes. Fire fighting training
and handling of fire equipment is imparted to the fire personnel at NISA.
The academy is located opposite to the Air Force station, Hakimpet alongside
the Rajiv Gandhi state highway (Secunderabad to Warrangal) on the outskirts
of Hyderabad city.

After training, the personnel are placed on probationary service for
a year after which they can move up to higher positions.
Promotional Avenues
The person joining as Constable becomes eligible for promotion to
the rank of Head Constable after 8 years of service.
After 13 years service including 8 year service as Head Constable,
he becomes eligible to the rank of Sub-Inspector.
After 16 years service including 3 years service as Sub-Inspector,
he becomes eligible to the rank of Inspector
After 19 years service including 3 years as Inspector, he becomes
eligible to the rank Subedar Major
On completion of 5 years of service as Inspector / Subedar Major,
he is considered for promotion as Assistant Commandant. Promotion to
the rank of Assistant Commandant (Junior Time Scale) takes place from
four sources, viz. 50% by promotion from the rank of Inspector, 10%
by absorption of security officers from PSUs, 10% by re-employment of
ex-army officers and 30% by direct recruitment through Civil Services
Examination.
Assistant Commandant becomes eligible for the promotion of Deputy
Commandant (Senior Time Scale), after 6 years of service
The recruitment to the post at the Commandant level (Junior Administrative
Grade) is used to be done as (a) 50% by promotion; (b) 40%
by deputation from IPS; (c) 10% by Optees and Re-employed personnel.
At the DIG level, there are 24 posts, out of which 40 per cent were
available to the cadre, the remaining 60 per cent being filled by the
IPS Officers on deputation.
There are 5 IG level posts in the CISF out of which 33.3 per cent
i.e. 2 posts are already available to the cadre
