To become a Marine Engineer one should finish the four-year BE in Marine engineering approved by the Director-General of Shipping (DGS). Many institutes in India and abroad offer courses in Marine engineering. But most of those institutes offer course only to boys, as it is a very risky field for the girls. a medical test is mandatory for admission to some institutes. Before enrolling in a private institute, one should ensure that it is recognised by the Directorate General of Shipping.
