India, being an agricultural nation most of the population live in rural areas. Rural development has a significant impact on the economic growth of the country. Developmental process without inclusion of rural India would be asymmetrical and unsustainable. It is the duty of the educated masses, especially qualified professionals in rural management to assist the economically backward rural population in their process of development so that the whole nation could achieve progress and prosperity. Hence rural management as a career has great prospects in an agrarian economy like India. For those who are deeply concerned about the nation's development, rural management is the right choice to fulfill their desire.

Government is also taking part in upgrading rural sector, by investing huge amounts for the development of the people living in rural areas. All Five Year Plans were focused towards the special benefit of the rural community. Apart from the Government of India, many voluntary agencies, banks and private companies are also supporting rural development and rural management. Though the rural mass is aware of globalization and they are ready to change themselves, management is essential for its growth as well as to be in tune with various technical and non-technical advancements in the rural sector. And here comes the importance of rural managers who can manage agriculture sector in the global arena.

Rural Management is one of the disciplines devised to meet the development needs of the country. Rural management is the study of planning, organizing, directing and controlling of co-operatives, agri-business and allied fields. It applies the knowledge of management studies in the rural context. Most of the courses in this field are designed in such a way that the concepts are applied in real life through training in rural areas involving diverse case studies and interaction with rural people. Rural Management requires intense interest in rural based sectors and rural development, as it encompasses managing the development process in rural areas .
