The career path of a chef is mainly focused on the person's individual
merit and progress. The remuneration depends on the hierarchy and in the
initial years it may not seem much. Over the years, the salaries go up
but depending on ones expertise, experience and the establishment they
are working for.
After completing a diploma or bachelor degree, graduates are usually
absorbed as trainees. After successful completion of training, they may
be absorbed in positions with salaries ranging between Rs 7,000 to Rs
10,000 per month. Moving higher up the ladder, one can get the salary
between Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 as a Station Chef/ Chef de Partie. Depending
on the firm, after gaining 5-7 years of experience, one can expect higher
pay packages ranging from Rs.50, 000 - 60,000 per month as a Sous Chef
and Rs 70,000- Rs 1,00,000 as an Executive Chef.
