A*Star India Youth Scholarship was launched by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Singapore in the year 2004. Singapore offers high education standards and rich opportunities for research and higher learning.

A*Star India Youth scholarship is offered to outstanding students for 4 years of studies in Singapore, leading to the Singapore-Cambridge Central Certificate of Education (Advanced) Level or equivalent, an international qualification widely recognized in many countries. Secondary 3 Level studies will commence in the month of January at selected Singapore schools for successful candidates, and scholars will sit for the GCE ‘A’ Level Examinations or equivalent at the end of Pre-University 2.

The scholarship is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar. Outstanding A*Star India youth scholars may be further identified for the A*Star Young Researchers Attachment Programme.

Terms of Scholarship :

  •   Annual allowance of S$ 2,200 (Secondary Level) & S$ 2,400 (Pre-University Level) per annum
  •   Hostel Accommodation
  •   Setting-in allowance of S$ 400 (once only).
  •   Economy class air passage to Singapore and back to home country upon completion of course
  •   Exemption from school and examination fees (excluding miscellaneous fees)
  •   Exemption from GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level examination fees (once only, if applicable)
  •   Subsidised medical benefits and accident insurance cover
  •   There is no bond attached to the Scholarship

Eligibility & Selection

Eligibility Criteria for the A*Star India Youth Scholarship for higher Studies:

Interested candidates who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for the scholarship:

  •   Indian Nationals
  •   Completed standard 8
  •   Possess outstanding academic track record (at least an average of 80%) with English as first language in the standards 7 and 8 school final examinations
  •   Possess a high level of oral and written competency in EnglishPh.D degree
  •   Age Limit : 14-16 years

The Ministry of Education, Singapore invites application for A*Star India Youth scholarship every year in the month of June and will be opened till mid July.

Selection :

Short- listed candidates are called for a selection test in general ability, English language and Mathematics. The test is usually conducted in end of August or early September. Candidates will be further short-listed for an interview held in the month of October- November. Candidates short-listed for the selection test and interview will be notified a week before the selection test/ interview dates.

Both tests and interviews will be conducted in India. Venue of test and interview cities will be published in the website. Usually the test and interviews will be held at Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai. Note that, the test/ interview centres may be used only if there are sufficient candidates.

Successful candidates will be informed of the scholarship award by late November and the scholars must reach Singapore by late December.

Application Procedure

There are 2 modes of application

- Hardcopy application

Each applicant should submit only ONE application and the online mode is recommended. Please do not send in a hardcopy application if you have already applied for the scholarship online and vice versa.

Candidates can submit, there online application through the website http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/scholarships/astar/

If unable to submit an online application, applicants may take a print out of the application and send in a copy.

Documents Needed :

Birth Certificate
Identity Card / Passport (if any)
Final Examination Result Slips for the last two years (Standards 7 and 8)

Original documents that are not in English must be translated. The translations must be accompanied by a photocopy of the original documents. Please do not send in any original documents as documents will not be returned.
