The West Bengal government offers an annual scholarship scheme, Bishwa Bangla Scholarships to students of State of West Bengal, India for pursuing full time MA Program at the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) University of London . Under the scheme, two students from Bengal at the full-time masters level will be provided annual scholarships.

MA South Asian Area Studies (1 year full-time).
Part-time programmes are not eligible.
New admissions only.

Provisions

Masters scholarship is awarded for one year only and covers an amount of £39,540.

Eligibility Criteria :

The students must

Ordinarily resident in West Bengal, India
Eligible to pay fees at the overseas rate
MA South Asian Area Studies by the scholarship application deadline
Meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS

The scholarship cannot be held along with any other major scholarship or studentship.

Selection Procedure

The candidates are assessed on the basis of academic merit and the other details filled in the scholarship application; the selected candidates will be informed through email. Candidates will be assessed by an Advisory Panel consisting of at least three academic members. The assessment of the application will be based on the information provided in the scholarship application and in student's on-line admission application for admission. Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references, statement and other relevant information

How to apply

Applicants can apply through online. Applicants must have an offer of admission to the full-time degree programme at SOAS by the scholarship application deadline. A complete application for admission includes transcripts, an explanation of the grading system for any degrees obtained outside of the UK, two references, CV, a personal statement.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. It is recommended to apply for the program about six weeks before the scholarship deadline. Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.

Successful candidates will be notified by the end of June.
