Directorate of School Education, Puducherry offers National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship for the students studying in Class VIII in State Govt. / Govt.Aided Schools only.

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Written Examination is conducted by the Directorate of School Education launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi for the Economically weaker section students to arrest their drop - outs. As per the State Quota, students will be selected for the award of scholarship on the basis of the Merit List.

Eligibility Criteria

Students should be studying in class VIII in State Government/ Government Aided Schools only.
2025Students should have scored atleast 50 % of Marks for SC / ST Category, 55 % of Marks for other Categories. in VII Std Annual Examination.
2025The income of parents from all sources should not exceed Rs.1,50,000/- per annum.

Examination Pattern

This examination consists of two parts namely PART - I and PART - II.
Separate question booklets will be provided for Part - I and Part - II.
All questions are to be answered.

Mental Ability Test (MAT)

Duration of the examination : 10.00 AM - 11.30 AM

Part 11

Scholastic Aptitutde Test (SAT)
Mathematics - 20 questions (Maximum Marks- 20)
Science - 35 questions2025 (Maximum Marks- 35)
Social Science : 35 questions2025 (Maximum Marks- 35)
Duration of the examination : 11.30 AM - 1.00 PM

Extra 30 minutes will be given to Visually Challenged Candidates

Syllabus:

The whole portions of class VII and portions upto December of Class VIII in Mathematics, Science and Social Science subject of State Board Syllabus.

Application & Selection Process

Documents required

2025A Photo duly attested by the Head of the School should be pasted on the space provided in the Application Form.

2025Hall Ticket will be sent to the candidates through their school. Affix passport size photo and get it attested from the Head of the School .

2025Reach the Examination Centre atleast Half-an-hour before the commencement of the Examination and occupy the seat that bears your Register Number.

2025Do not take Calculator, Clarke’s Table or any kind of ready reckoner to the Examination Hall.

2025Write your Register Number, as given in the Hall Ticket on the OMR Sheet and on the cover page of the Question Booklets in the space provided.

2025DO NOT Write your name in any part of the Question Booklet or the OMR Sheet.

2025Follow the instructions of the Invigilator strictly during the Examination.
