Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai provides Dr. Devangana Desai Endowment Scholarships for pursuing research programme. The scholarships will support research in ancient, medieval and pre modern (until 1900s) art, archaeology, architecture, culture and history of India.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, abbreviated CSMVS and formerly named the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is one of the best-known museums of the country.

Dr. Devangana Desai is an eminent art historian on ancient and medieval Indian art, with several publications on the religious imagery and iconography.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai provides scholarships at senior and junior levels.

Provisions

Scholarship is for 1 year . The senior scholar will receive total endowment amount of Rs. 2,50,000/- while the Junior scholar will receive total endowment amount of Rs.1,50,000.

Eligibility Criteria :

Junior scholarship : Applicants who have completed a Post Graduate degree from a recognized institution / University are eligible to apply. Applicants must be between 23 to 40 years of age.

Senior Scholarship : Well-established professionals with at least eight years of experience in the field and a proven publication record, or those who have been awarded their PhD. are eligible to apply.

Applicants must be above 40 years of age

Selection Procedure

Selection will be made after a formal interview with the candidates. No travel allowance will be provided for this interview.

All applications are reviewed by members of the Endowment’s review committee. Applications for the scholarships are opened and announced in April of each year. A shortlist of 8-10 applicants will be made from the applications received.

The application will require one to provide the following documents on or before the application deadline:

Application form — duly filled and signed the application form
Curriculum Vitae or Resume — of education, professional experience, honours, and publications including previous and current fellowships, grants, and/ or awards, and a description of one’s research interests.
Project/Research Proposal — The full statement of the research proposal that should not exceed 1000 words (12 point type, double-spaced) addressing the following:
1. description of the research planned to undertake and the rationale for the choice
2. Identification of the problem(s) to be investigated and the hypothesis to be analysed and supporting methodology (scientific or otherwise) to be applied
3. The research methods intended to be followed
4. A brief account of work accomplished by the applicant and other scholars in the proposed area
5. Recommendations: Two recommendations (one academic and one professional). Referees would address the following:
6. The range and depth of the applicant’s knowledge and experience about the topic
7. Evidence of the applicant’s ability to produce quality work
