Centre for Development Studies provides K.N. Raj Training and Fellowship Program to improve the curriculum and teaching of Economics in Colleges and University Departments across India, especially Kerala.
Professor K.N. Raj, the founding father of CDS, was a builder of institutions and a visionary who strived to improve the quality of teaching and research in economics in Kerala and elsewhere in the country. In order to commemorate his life and contributions to the larger community, CDS is privileged to have launched a series of fellowship and training schemes on the basis of a generous grant made available to it by the Kerala State Government.
Under this scheme eligible candidates from the participants of the training program can apply for the K.N. Raj Teaching Grant Fellowship. The fellowship is for candidates to visit the Centre to prepare teaching materials on a specific topic
Course Structure and Program
The course would consist of taught sessions and interactive workshops on specific topics. Four broad topics would be covered during the course, Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Econometrics and Issues in Indian Economy. Each topic would be covered in a five-day week with two lecture sessions in the morning and workshops in the afternoon. Lectures are intended to refresh fundamentals of the specific topics, while workshops would be interactive sessions consisting of mock lectures by participants, aimed at improving the teaching skills of the participants.
The course is conducted under the K.N. Raj Training and Fellowship program.
Number of Participants : Maximum number of participants for the program will be 20.
Fellowship
There would be no course fee. Double occupancy accommodation would be provided at CDS along with three meals during the program, the cost of which would be borne by CDS through the fellowship program. CDS would also provide course ware, access to Library and computing facility through the fellowship program. All other expenses, including travel cost, will have to borne by the selected candidates.
The fellowship will consist of a travel grant from the place of
residence to CDS, Trivandrum and back, rent-free accommodation and
boarding at CDS guest house/hostel for a period of thirty days and a grant
of up to Rs.10,000 for purchasing textbooks and other teaching research
materials. The awardee will also be provided with a grant of up to Rs.
35,000/- for purchasing a Laptop computer. At the end of the award period,
the awardee is expected to produce teaching resources such as lecture
notes. During the term of the fellowship the awardee will have access to
both library and computing resources at the Centre and, if she or he so
chooses, may be mentored by one of the CDS faculty. Further, subject to
availability, the awardees will also be provided with office space.
Selection procedure
Selection would be on the basis of their performance in the Training program.
The application form can be downloaded from CDS website (http://www.cds.edu). The candidate’s qualification and experience will be the main criteria for selection.
