Naropa campus at Hemis, Ladakh offers Naropa Fellowship for students and working professionals from all fields, with a preference for those from Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and other Himalayan regions across India, Nepal and Bhutan.

Students/working professionals from other parts of India and from other countries, interested in ecological issues, cultural preservation, entrepreneurship, travel and tourism are also encouraged to apply.

The Naropa Fellowship is a one-year, fully-residential, post-graduate, academic programme focused on creating and nurturing agents of change who will work towards fostering an ecosystem of entrepreneurship and growth while preserving the cultural heritage of Ladakh and the Himalayan region. The driving purpose behind the Naropa Fellowship is the urgent need to not only retain local talent, but also develop entrepreneurial skills that can help foster a robust socio- economic environment in Ladakh and surrounding regions. Additionally, there is also a need to educate the younger generation regarding the importance of maintaining their distinctive culture and heritage.

The Naropa Fellowship is inspired by His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa and co-founded by His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche, Spiritual Regent to His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa and Dr. Pramath Raj Sinha, the founding dean of the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, and the co-founder of Ashoka University, Sonipat.

The Fellowship is designed to address the rising challenges of unemployment, lack of training and professional skills, and gradual cultural erosion in Ladakhi and the Himalayan societies. The campus for the Naropa Fellowship Programme will be located at Hemis, Ladakh. The residential building for Naropa Fellows will be at Hemis, Ladakh in the Naropa campus.

Fellowship amount

The Founding is for 50 fellows in the class of the current year. Forty students of the founding class will be fully funded and eligible for full scholarships.The scholarship will also be available to international students on a needs-only basis. The fee inclusive of tuition fee, hostel accommodation and meals, will be INR 10 lakhs. *GST as applicable

Selection Procedure

Naropa has a rolling admissions process and is split into two rounds. The selection of a Naropa Fellow will be finalised after a series of evaluation. Applicants are required to submit a detailed application form and answer short essay-type questions on the form. This will be followed by an interview process. Candidates will be evaluated for their sense of purpose and commitment towards working for the upliftment of Ladakh and other such remote Himalayan regions. They will also be assessed for their verbal, written and analytical skills, their attitude and aptitude to benefit from the unique learning experience at Naropa. There is no application fee to apply to the program.
