Ranked 9th in UK’s list of top university of East Midlands by The Guardian University Guide, Loughborough has been identified as an incredible place to study and work. The single-site campus based on an area of 437 acres is the largest in UK, located on the outskirts of the market town of Loughborough in the county of Leicestershire with excellent links to London airports and train stations.

Loughborough has been a consistent rank holder of being among UK’S top 20 Universities for 10 consecutive years in The Times Good University Guide since 2002 and 16th in the coveted Sunday Times University Guide 2011. In 2009’s National Student Survey, the university was voted one of the top five in the UK. Loughborough University has been topping the Times Higher Education league for UK’s Best Student Experience for 5 consecutive years ever since the poll's inception in 2006. It has also recently been ranked 16th by QS World University Rankings in the Top 50 under 50 ranks institutions. In recognition of its contribution to the education and research sector, the University has been awarded 6 Queen's Anniversary Prizes. What makes Loughborough different from other universities of the UK is the English Cricket Board National Cricket Centre which houses inside the University campus. Incidentally, the University is also ranked 1st in the UK for Sport.

The University has around 15,000 students of which 15 % are international including 159 students from India as well. Loughborough University offers an array of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees with 21 academic schools under its affiliation including Arts, Business and Economics, Chemical Engineering, English and Drama, Information Science, Mathematical Sciences, Politics, History and International Relations, Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences and Teacher Education Unit to name a few.

Established in 1909 as a small technical institute providing local facility for further education and offering courses in technical subjects of science and art, Loughborough College of Advanced Technology was recognized in 1966 for its excellence. Loughborough University of Technology, as it was later on called, was finally renamed as Loughborough University in 1996.
