Kerala Law Entrance Examination : Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the various courses are :

5 Year LLB course

• Candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or any other examination recognized by the Universities in Kerala as equivalent thereto.
• A candidate who has passed an examination in 10+2 course of schooling recognized by the educational authority of the Central or State Government or possesses such academic qualifications which are considered equivalent to such 10+2 course by the Bar Council of India can also apply for admission to the course.
• Candidates who are appearing/ appeared for the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidates become eligible for admission only if they produce the pass certificate of the qualifying examination at the time of admission.
• No candidate shall be admitted to the course unless he/she has passed the qualifying Examination and obtained 40% marks in the qualifying examination. However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes need only a pass in the qualifying examination with 35% marks.

3 Year LLB course

• Candidate seeking admission to the course should be a Graduate in any faculty of any University in Kerala or of any other Universities, recognized by any of the Universities in Kerala as equivalent thereto.
• A candidate who has passed the Bachelor’s Degree examination with a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate (ie. 40% marks for all the parts of the Degree Examinations taken together ) shall alone be eligible for admission to the 3 year LL.B. course. However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled castes/Scheduled Tribes need only a pass in the qualifying examination with 35% marks.
• Candidates who are appearing / appeared for the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidates become eligible for admission only if they produce the Provisional Degree / Degree certificate of the qualifying examination and the mark lists of all parts of the qualifying examination at the time of Centralised Allotment Process.

2 Year LLM course

• Candidates who have passed the L.L.B. examination (5 year / 3 year course) of the Universities in Kerala or other Universities recognized by the Universities in Kerala as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission. Candidates appearing / appeared for the regular Final year LL.B. examination can also apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidates become eligible for admission only if they produce the Provisional Degree / Degree Certificate of the qualifying examination and the mark lists of all parts of the qualifying examination at t he time of Centralized Allotment Process.

Age Limit :

5 Year LLB course - Applicants should complete 17 years on 31st of December of the year of examination. No relaxation of the minimum age will be allowed. There is no upper age limit. Copy of the relevant page of SSLC or equivalent certificate should be  attached as proof of age.

3 Year LLB course - There is no upper age limit for admission to the 3 year LL.B. Course

2 Year LLM course- There is no upper age limit for admission to the L.L.M. course.

Nativity :

Candidate should be an Indian citizen of Kerala origin. In order to prove that a candidate is an Indian citizen of Kerala origin for the limited purpose of eligibility for admission he/she has to produce any one of the following certificates in the body of the application form itself.

• In the case of candidates who have undergone school studies in Kerala, a course certificate from the Head of the educational institution(s) in Kerala, to prove that the candidate has undergone his/her studies in Kerala for not less than 5 (five) years within a  period of 12 (twelve) years, immediately prior to the completion of the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination.  OR
• A certificate from the Village Officer/ Tahsildar to show that he/she or his/her mother/father was born in Kerala.  OR
• Certificate from the Village Officer/Tahsildar to the effect that the candidate has been a resident of Kerala State for a period of five years within a period of twelve years.
