Japanese Government MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) offers Scholarships for Foreign Research Students residing in India to study as Research Student/ Master’s Course/ Ph.D. courses at Japanese Universities. Applicants should be a (non-degree) student or Regular Student for a Degree under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program. The aim of this scholarship is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between your country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.

Scholarship Description

This scholarship is available for 2 years from April or One and a half year from October*1 (Including a half year of Japanese language training period*2) and will cover 144,000yen (Research Students)

Eligibility

For Research Student / Master’s Degree

Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. The candidates should obtain their mark sheet and degree on or before 31st March 2020 for April 2020 batch and 30th September 2020 for October 2020 batch

For Ph.D. Degree

Master’s degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. Candidate having practical research/teaching/work experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification on or before 31st March 2020 for April 2020 batch and 30th September 2020 for October 2020 batch
be an incoming first-year student
be a foreign national

For Research Student/Master’s degree in Japanese Language

Students who have completed Bachelor’s degree / Master’s degree course in Japanese Language from a recognized university or;
Students who have completed Bachelor’s degree course in any subject from a recognized university and obtained N2 Certificate of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conducted by the Japan Foundation

For Ph.D. degree in Japanese Language

Students who have completed Master degree course in Japanese Language from a recognized university

For Management course a minimum GMAT score of 650 with a Bachelor Degree

Age Limit

Below 35 (born on or after April 2, 1985)

How to Apply

The application should be sent to the Embassy through email : scholarship-india@nd.mofa.go.jp as an attachment, by the required date along with following information order (1) Brief info(2) Application Form 3) Field of Study & Research Proposal and 4) Placement Preference form, mentioning subject Research Student and file name as field of study-name.pdf (e.g. physics-amit.pdf). Applications received on this email id only will be considered as submitted application.

The candidate are shortlisted and called for interview. Shortlisted applicants must submit the following documents to the Japanese diplomatic missions by the required date.

Documents indicated by the black circle () should be submitted only by the applicant.
These documents must be written in Japanese or English, or translations in either of these languages should be attached.
Number the documents(① through ⑩) in the right upper corner.
Please use the fiscal (specify current year) versions of the Application Form and the Placement Preference Form. The applicant’s photograph to be attached to the Application Form should be of clear quality, taken within six months of submission, and printed on paper specially for photographs. The photograph should be 4.5 x 3.5 cm., upper-body, full-faced, no hats. Please write applicant’s name and nationality on the back of the photograph. Applicants may also paste the photograph data to the Application Form and print out the Application Form.
The Field of Study and Research Program Plan should describe concretely and in detail the applicant’s own research program because it will serve as important material for placement of the applicant at a university. Use FY (specify current year) form.
The academic transcripts of the last university attended should show the grade scale applied and the grades earned by the applicant in all the subjects studied for each year of study at a university department/faculty and graduate school. (A degree certificate or a graduation certificate simply showing the ranking of the applicant at graduation will not substitute for academic transcripts.)
The graduation certificate and the degree certificate obtained from the last university attended may be photocopies, provided that, the copies are attested by an authorized person of the university. Do not submit original as no submitted certificates will be returned.
For abstracts of the theses, abstracts of the graduation thesis and any presented papers will suffice. Please note that these abstracts will be used as basic data for evaluation of the applicant’s academic ability.
