University of British Columbia, Canada provides Outstanding International Students Award Scholarship to undergraduates. The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award recognizes outstanding international undergraduate students from impoverished or war-torn areas who have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances, and who would be unable to attend university without financial assistance.

UBC's International Scholars have the potential to make a difference in the world. They are high academic achievers, they have demonstrated exceptional extracurricular activities, and they are dedicated to giving back to their communities.

Duration:

Three years of undergraduate study or to degree completion

Scholarship Details

The value of the award is proportional to demonstrated financial need and enough to cover tuition costs for your program of study, including living expenses.

The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award can be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion, whichever is less. The award may be renewed provided to achieve satisfactory academic standing in the faculty, continue to demonstrate financial need, and maintain your Canadian study permit (student visa)

Eligibility Criteria :

To be considered for the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, the candidate must:

be an international student – neither a Canadian citizen nor a permanent resident of Canada - and be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit (student visa)
have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances, with no financial means from family or other sources to pursue post-secondary education (neither in your own country because it is unavailable or unattainable, nor outside your country because it is unaffordable)
be graduating or have recently graduated from a recognized senior secondary school
be applying for first undergraduate degree
be able to demonstrate superior academic achievement (at least an “A” average or equivalent standard) and leadership potential

Nomination

Candidate may be nominated by their secondary school, by a recognized international development agency and its affiliate, or by a registered local or international charitable and not-for-profit organization.

A school, agency, or organization may nominate only one student for undergraduate study at UBC’s Okanagan or Vancouver campuses.

Once a school nominates a student, no other students from the same school can be nominated by an agency or organization for this award.

How to apply

An application to a UBC undergraduate program and a nomination for the Donald Wehrung International Student Award are separate processes, and will be independently evaluated.

Complete an online application for undergraduate admission to UBC at you.ubc.ca. Use your full legal name exactly as it appears in your passport or other official documentation.

Although you can specify two degree choices in your application for admission, your award consideration will be based only on your first-choice degree
