The National Law University, Delhi  Project 39 - A offers  Fair Trial Fellowship program for young lawyers and social workers. The program staff will comprise two Legal Strategy Co-ordinators,10 Social Work Fellows and 20 Legal Fellows for Pune and Nagpur offices .

Project 39 - A ensures access to legal representation for prisoners regardless of the offence.

The Fair Trial Fellowship (“the Fellowship”) is an opportunity for young lawyers and social workers to work for providing quality legal representation to undertrial prisoners. The Fellowship will train and mentor a group of young professionals to work in collaboration with the State Legal Services Authority towards ensuring fair trial for undertrial prisoners at both pre - trial and trial stages. The Fellowship is being currently rolled out for work in Nagpur and Pune Central prisons.Objective

The Fellowship has been instituted with the following objectives:

Scholarship Details

The Fellows will be engaged on a full-time basis, and paid Rs. 30,000 per month. The Fellowship will be for three years and Fellows will not be permitted to undertake work outside of the Fellowship.

Selection procedure

Selection procedure will be conducted in two stages :

Candidates will be selected based on their performance in both the rounds. Selected candidates will be intimated by email.
Dates and venue of selection rounds will be intimated to shortlisted candidates via email.

Application

All interested candidates are required to send a copy of their resumé and a statement of purpose by email to p39a@nludelhi.ac.in. The Statement of purpose should not exceed 700 words. The subject of the e-mail should indicate the category of fellowship applied for as - “Fair Trial Fellowship - Application for Legal Fellowship” or “Fair Trial Fellowship - Application for Social Work Fellowship” depending on the choice and eligibility of the candidate.

Subject to fulfilling applicable eligibility criteria, candidates will be shortlisted for the first round of selection, on the basis of their work profile and statement of purpose.

Selected Candidates will be required to submit self-attested copies of all marksheets/degrees relating to eligibility criteria and provide original documents for verification at the time of joining. Final Selection of the candidate will be subject to the verification of documents.
