Government of West Bengal offers Hindi Scholarship Scheme for the students of West Bengal who ave passed the madhyamik higher secondary, graduation or any other equivalent degree of other recognised bodies including Voluntary Hindi Organizatiion and got admitted in the same year in the next higher course with Hindi as one of its subjects. Research Candidates (M.Phill, Ph.D. or M Litt. etc) of Hindi Lnaguage or Literature who have registered in such studies in (current year), B.Ed/B. T course, where both the contents and methods of teaching Hindi. The aim of this scholarship is to encourage the study of Hindi in Non-Hindi speaking states like West Bengal.

Scholarship award details

This scholarship is awarded to 239 scholars.

For Higher secondary stage: The amount of scholarship per month is Rs.300 and the quota is 143

For Graduation (UG) stage: The amount of scholarship per month is Rs.500 and the quota is 72

For Post-Graduation (PG) as well as Research stage: The amount of scholarship per month is Rs.1000 and the quota is 24

Eligibility criteria

Student should belong to a non-Hindi speaking state and be ordinarily residing in West Bengal
Students mother tongue should not be hindi
Students who belong to non-hindi state but have been residing for any purpose in a hindi speaking state will not be eligible for the scholarship
Students who wish to pursue their studies through correspondence course or who are preparing for an examination privately are not eligible
Students who are preparing for two courses simultaneously will not be eligible, unless Hindi is one of the subjects of the study in both those courses.
Only those candidates will be eligible, who have passed the qualifying examination in the first attempt
Candidates of Voluntary Hindi Organizations and other candidates must submit the applications THROUGH PARENT BODY/SCHOOL/COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY with individual accounts details (Name of the bank, Account No, IFSC code, Mobile No.)
Candidates should secure at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination
Candidates in employment, whether full or part time, or whether in a private Organization or a Government Organization will not be eligible unless they are sponsered by the concerned State Government/Union Territory Administration, if so required by them(State/UT)
This scholarship is combinable with other scholarships as incentive to study Hindi

Interested students can obtain the application forms either by hand from the Scholarship and Stipend Section of Education Directorate, West Bengal, Bikash Bhaban, North Block, 9th Floor, Bidhannagar, Kolkata-700091, between 12 noon to 4 p.m. on any working day (till 07 days prior to the submission deadline) on production of the original Mark Sheet or by sending a self-addressed and stamped (Rs.5/-) envelope with attested photocopy of the Mark Sheet to the above address, Phone No.: , Email:, Website: http://wbhed.gov.in
