Aspiring social leaders from across the world

IDEX (Intrapreneur Development Experience) is a U.S. based non-profit organization founded in 2010 as an initiative under Gray Matters Capital Foundation. Their operations in India is managed through a strategic partnership with Gray Ghost Ventures Managerial Services Private Limited (GGVMSPL). IDEX offers a professional development program for those who wants to work with social enterprises. IDEX partners with Social Enterprises across India to host fellows. The IDEX Fellowship currently has three fellowship sites across India: Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangalore.

IDEX Global Fellowship is a six month accelerator program for aspiring social leaders from across the world. Each year, the IDEX Accelerator welcomes a select number of individuals to take part in six months of intrapreneurial leadership training across India. During the six-month fellowship cycle, IDEX fellows work full-time with a social enterprise partner (in India) in addition to completing IDEX’s Intrapreneur Leadership Training. Fellows gain emerging market experience while working hands on with socially-focused enterprises who deliver high impact solutions in local and global communities.

After the fellowship program, IDEX Fellows continue to pursue social impact careers, with 90% of alumni currently working with socially progressive enterprises such as Gray Matters Capital, Calvert Foundation, Commonwealth Ventures, Bridge International Academies, Ashoka, Omidyar Network and Unltd India.

Structure of IDEX Fellowship

Pre-Departure Orientation: 3 weeks (Online)
The IDEX Fellowship begins with three weeks of virtual training delivered by IDEX staff and alumni. Each Fellows is expected to commit approximately 3-4 hours a week on all exercises associated with Pre-Departure Orientation. This orientation consists of virtual seminars, readings, and strategic deliverables to personally and professionally prepare you for your six month field experience. Each week, presenters collaborate to provide you with a reflection question pertaining to the week’s topics.

Field Orientation: 1 week (India)
Field Orientation is an intensive five day training and orientation event. The Field Orientation will consist of approximately 40 hours of training over a five day period. Field Orientation is structured around five themes: Social Business, Power of the Intrapreneur, Design for Innovation, Resource Mobilization and Measuring Social Impact.

Field Placement & Capacity Building: 24 weeks (India)
Field Placement:
For six months, fellows work with one of IDEX’s partner enterprises as key staff member. Fellows work full-time (40 hours/week) with entreprises, interacting with customers, working hands-on with projects while building their professional portfolio and grappling first-hand with the complex  issues of working for a socially-minded enterprise.

Capacity Building:
In addition to full-time field placement, fellows will also undertake 24 weeks of accelerated capacity building modules (Managing Social Innovation, Advocacy & Outreach, Resource Mobilization and Impact Measurement). Fellows will commit approximately 4-5 hours a week on each capacity building module for a minimum of 96 hours over the entire program.

Reflection Conference: 1 Day (India)
A final event, the Reflection Conference, is attended by the whole cohort, IDEX team members, and organizations/individuals from all spaces within the social impact ecosystem. Reflection Conference allows Fellows to publically display what knowledge and skills they have gained, gainfully learn from each other’s experiences, and network with individuals both inside and outside of IDEX.
