Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. The IET is deeply committed to the development of the engineering community and is bringing together engineering talent globally to share knowledge, develop engineers, help industry and academia and to ultimately solve problems in society.

The prestigious IET India Scholarship award is part of the IET Ambition Awards programme that includes a range of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships, competitions and travel awards encouraging young people to enter the engineering and technology profession and providing financial support throughout university. The IET India Scholarship programme has been designed to reward and celebrate individual excellence and innovation among undergraduate engineering students, including women engineers. The Award was first announced in 2013 and received an excellent response with over 5,000 entries from students across India. The winners are evaluated across various parameters including academic performance, extracurricular activities, range of outreach activities and their ability to come up with engineering solutions to solve problems impacting society.

The selection to this competition is spread across four levels.

The first level filtered applicants on the eligibility criteria.
At the second level, candidates had to write an online test that evaluated them across various parameters including academic performance, extracurricular activities and range of outreach activities.
For the third level of regional rounds, candidates had to come up with engineering solutions to solve problems impacting society. Solutions had to be original, socially acceptable, economically feasible and technologically viable.
Finalists for the national final round were tested not just their technical knowledge and problem solving capability, but also for their potential to be the next generation leaders.

Eligibility for IET India Scholarship Award

The IET India Scholarship Award is open to students of 2nd and 3rd year B.Tech programmes. The Scholarship is also open for Lateral entry students who join B.Tech programme in 2nd year.

Any Second and third year full time regular UG Engineering programme student from an AICTE/UGC approved institution
The student should have cleared all regular credit courses in a single attempt, the student with a back in any exam cannot apply.
Minimum Marks in UG : The students should have obtained at least 60% in aggregate for the semesters cleared so far or corresponding to CGPA of at least 6.5 in a 10 point scale
Minimum Marks in Class 12 or equivalent: Higher Secondary (or equivalent) marks should be above 60% or of equivalent grade.
There is no age limit for the applicant.
Application is open for all IET members and non- members and for all branches of engineering as recognised by the AICTE/UGC.
Students who participated in the previous year Scholarship award can also participate provided they were not the National level winner or Runners up.

There will be two separate categories for the Scholarships:

General Category
Women Category

Any woman engineering student can apply for both the categories, but if selected in both the categories, she will receive award in only one category as decided by the IET Jury Panel.

If a student wins the scholarship both in Regional and National level he/she will be awarded Certificate for both the levels and the prize money for national level only.

How to Apply for IET India Scholarship Award

Eligible Students for the IET India scholarship award Award can register online through the official website https://scholarships.theietevents.com/#!

Before applying, the student needs to fill the following information and should keep a scanned copy of college id.

Documents to be submitted (uploaded) with the application

Applications will be considered to the IET India Scholarship Award only if attested copies (attested by Head of the Department/Principal/Dean/Director/Registrar of the Candidate's institution) of required documents are scanned and uploaded.
Documents to be submitted are:
- Class 10 marks sheet (Mandatory)
- Class 12 marks sheet (Mandatory)
- Engineering marks sheet (For all semesters, completed until now
- CV (Optional)
- Certificate of any National/State Level competition that has won (Optional)
- Certificate of any Indoor/Outdoor sport competition that has won (Optional)
How to Successfully Scan & Upload the Documents
- Format of Scan- Scan the documents (at 75 or 100 dpi; either in JPG or PDF format).
- Only files with .zip extension can be uploaded.
- Zip the scanned copies and name the zip file with your name.
- Size of the File: Ensure that size of the zip file does not exceed 5 MB.

After registration, the candidate will receive an e-mail to activate their account and will also get the User name. After activation of the account, the candidate need to login using their user name and password.

Usually the application call for the scholarship are published in the month of March/ April.

Selection Process

The IET India Scholarship will be given on merit-based selection criteria. IET India Scholarship is a 4 stage selection process.

Stage 1: Online Application

Students apply online and submit the required documents. Criteria for Selection to Stage 1 is as follows :

Short listed students from stage 1 will be intimated on the registered email address.

Stage 2: Online Test

The Students would be intimated on mail about the test date and time.
Candidates may take the online test from anywhere in India at their convenience, there are no centres allotted for the same.

The multiple choice online test would comprise of 8 subjects, i.e Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical and Civil. There would be approximately 50 Multiple Choice based Questions (MCQs) and the duration of the test is 70 minutes.

A cut off mark/score will be decided for each regional level by the national jury. Based on the cut-off, the applicants will be short listed for the next level.

Stage 3- Regional Level Assessment (Presentation on a Given Topic)

Shortlisted students from stage 2 will be required to give a presentation on a specific topic that will be given by the Jury members.
The topic will be focused on solving a currently societal challenge, specific to the region.
The topic will be communicated to the contestants at least 10 days in advance to allow them enough time to prepare.

The Regional Assessment will be conducted in the respective 4 regions

Regional South
Regional North
Regional East + North East
Regional West

Stage 4- The National Finals (Presentation on an Engineering Problem)

Short listed candidates from stage 3 will appear for the National Finals
The candidates have to make a presentation on their vision and solution, as they see it, for an engineering problem that is relevant to the society.
The National Finals will also include a Group Discussion (GD) among the finalists.
The topic for this GD will be given by the jury on the day of the National Finals.
