Meritorious Students in Kerala
The Women Scientist Division at Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE), under its STARS (Students with Talent and Aptitude for Research in Science) program, has launched a scheme that aims to promote Research in Science among students through the award of scholarships for toppers in science subjects at higher secondary level for pursuing higher education in Science. Named as the Pratibha Scholarship, the scheme identifies and nurtures students who have qualified in Higher Secondary Board Examination from Kerala, with 90% and above or equivalent grade, to avail scholarship of Rs 12,000/-, 18,000/-, and 24,000/- for 1st , 2nd and 3rd years respectively for pursuing Degree course in Basic or Natural Sciences in India.
(i) Candidates of Indian origin, who have obtained 90% and above or equivalent Grade for Higher Secondary Board Examination in any of the Boards viz., CISCE/CBSE/State Board from Kerala are eligible to apply provided they pursue B.Sc. Degree/Integrated M.Sc. Degree course in Basic or Natural Sciences in India.
(ii) The Students should have passed their qualifying examination in the preceding academic year. Mere eligibility does not warrant award of the Scholarship. Scholarship is awarded as per ranking based on the marks secured in higher secondary examination for all Science subjects.
(iii) Total number of Scholarships awarded in a year, with all Boards put together is 100. The 100 scholarships will be distributed among different Boards of Examination such as State Board, CBSE and CISCE (Class XII), in proportion to the number of students who have appeared for the respective examination, from Kerala.
(iv) The awardees under this scheme of scholarship will not be allowed to receive any other scholarship. In case he or she is in receipt of any such scholarship, the same must be refunded to the respective issuing authority, in order to avail KSCSTE Pratibha Scholarship. However, SC/ST students are exempted from this criterion.
(v) The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) of WSD will look into the aspects of providing advice, monitoring and evaluation of the scheme and awarding the scholarship.
(vi) Applications without necessary certificates and approval by the Head of Institution will be rejected. The decision of KSCSTE in the selection of awardees shall be final and no further communication shall be entertained in this regard.
Amount of Scholarship
The top 100 students selected for the award of Pratibha Scholarship will receive scholarship of Rs 12,000/-, 18,000/-, and 24,000/- for 1st , 2nd and 3rd years respectively for pursuing their Degree course.
These scholarships will be awarded only after admission to the Degree course in the colleges is finalized.
The students may apply through the College/Academic institution in which they have joined for B.Sc. Degree /Integrated M.Sc. Degree course.
Period of Submission of Application: August/September (The KSCSTE will issue yearly notification to this effect)
Duration and Renewal of Scholarship
The KSCSTE Pratibha Scholarship is sanctioned for three years of study for the B.Sc Degree course and for the first three years in case of Integrated M.Sc. Degree. The scholarship will be released initially for the first year only; but it is renewable in the second & third years subject to successful completion of the previous years courses with not less than 60 % marks. The scholarship renewal request in subsequent years should be forwarded to KSCSTE in the prescribed application format. Copies of mark lists of previous examination ( 2 semesters/year), signed 'Scholarship Receipt' and filled up, signed copy of 'Terms & Conditions' and signed 'Status verification certificate' should be enclosed with the application for renewal of Scholarship.
Disbursement of Scholarship
The selected student should have a valid bank account in any of the nationalized banks. On sanction of the Scholarship, the selected students will be asked to furnish Bank account details and also Certificate of status verification forwarded by the Head of the Institution where the student is undergoing Under-graduate course. The selected students should also submit the 'Terms & Conditions', duly signed by them and countersigned by the Head of the Institution for release of Scholarship by the Council.
Check list of Documents to be attached with the Application
1. Age proof of the applicant
2. Attested copies of HSE certificate and Mark list
3. Community Certificate for SC/ST applicants
4. Certificate in proof of place of origin
5. Application form duly filled in and signed by the candidate, forwarded by the Head of the Institution where the candidate is currently undergoing the Degree course

1. 1st page of S.S.L.C Book
2. Birth Certificate
3. Nativity Certificate
