SBI Youth for India is a fellowship program for outstanding young professionals and graduates, who are passionate about touching lives and seek to lead the change for a better India. The fellowship is initiated, funded and managed by the State Bank of India (SBI) in partnership with reputed NGOs like M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation, BAIF Development Research Foundation, Seva Mandir, Aga Khan Rural Support Program (India) and Gram Vikas. SBI Youth for India fellowship program provides a framework for India's best young minds to join hands with rural communities, empathize with their struggles and connect with their aspirations.
The Program seeks to help India secure an equitable and sustainable growth path by:

Fellowship
The selected fellows will be given a
monthly allowance of 15000 INR for the duration of the program to meet
their living expenses. Local transport allowance of Rs.1000 per month.
In addition, A Readjustment Allowance of Rs.40,000/- upon successful
completion of the Fellowship, to & fro travel costs of the
Fellows
from his/her place of residence to the project site as well as for
training programs will be paid by the Bank. The Bank will also provide
the fellows with medical cover. The partner NGO will provide assistance
to help you make stay arrangements and they will also arrange for
necessary medical attention to be provided when needed.
SBI Youth India fellowship program is meant for highly motivated, outstanding young professionals and fresh graduates between the ages of 21-32.
The applicants :
- must be an Indian citizen.
- should have demonstrated initiative and leadership in the past, to be
able to foster change at the grass root level.
- should be people-oriented and have concern for people as you will
have to constantly interact with rural communities.
- should be willing to adjust to life in rural locations.
Interested candidates can submit the online application form at www.youthforindia.org. Selection for the fellowship involves choosing the right kind of candidates. Short listed candidates are notified and they will be required to actively interact on an online forum to discuss and develop their ideas for rural development. This interaction forms an integral part of the selection process. Candidates are short listed after the interaction and will be invited for a personal interview. At least two fellows will be located at one project location.
Program Structure
Training : The selected candidates will have to go through a well designed orientation and training program which will include both classroom sessions with guest speakers and field visits. These training programs sensitize you to the rural ethos, introduce you to rural project management techniques and equip you to handle the challenges of working on rural development projects.
Project Work : After the training, you will have to work on a project. Projects will be assigned in accordance with the skill set and interest of the candidate as well as the need of the partner NGO. The Fellow will need to define the outcome s/he seeks to achieve at the end of the project and work towards achieving it. For the entire duration of the project, the partner NGO will provide the Fellow with a Mentor, to ensure that s/he is able to successfully address the challenges that they may face.
The projects will be located in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It is preferable that you know the local language or at least follow it to be able to effectively contribute. The staff of the partner NGOs at the location is always ready to support the fellows in their work.
Opportunities after the Fellowship
The fellowship opens up a variety of opportunities. The fellows can choose to continue in the development sector by working with NGOs or organizations in the sphere of public policy, planning, research and advocacy. They can choose to become a social entrepreneur, pursue academics or other fellowships like the Prime Minister's Rural Development Fellows Scheme. They can also choose to return to the mainstream and leverage the insight that you would have gained about rural India to influence perceptions and policy and to develop products and services suited to rural markets. Post fellowship, Youth for India shall endeavor to support Fellows to pursue their individual career interests through mentorship, guidance, recommendation and referrals.
