Australian Universities start the admission process one year before the commencement of the course and so it is always better to get the admission as early as possible. Send enquiries at least 12 months before the proposed date of admission.
There are two ways to apply for the Australian course you want to study :
1. Direct to the education provider
To apply direct, download the application form from the education provider's website. If you are applying for courses at more than one institution, you will need to submit a separate application to each institution.
2. Through an Australian education agent
Those who decided to go to Australia for their higher education can seek the help of an education agent in your home town. Most Australian education institutions have authorized agents to represent them in each country. These education agents can :
While approaching an agent, make sure that the agent is an authorized representative of the institution that you wish to apply to and understand any fees that may be levied for using their services.
The Australian High Commission does not authorize any agents but supports an agents association AAERI (the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India). AAERI members have to abide by a Code of Ethical Practices (COEP) which requires that they provide services to prospective students in a manner which reflects the established practices of the Australian education and training sector on the one hand and safeguards the genuine interest of prospective students on the other. AAERI's Code of Ethics is based on the Australian Government's ESOS Act which makes Australian education institutions accountable for the activities of their overseas agents.
A list of AAERI members can be found at its website at www.aaeri.org
If your application to the institution is successful, you will receive a 'Letter of Offer'. To confirm your offer you must respond to this letter by signing and sending an acceptance of offer back to the institution. This can usually be done by mail or, in some cases, by scanning and emailing the letter. The Letter of Offer is a contract between you and the institution. It sets out the course you will be enrolled in, enrolment conditions, the fees you need to pay, and the refund payable if you don’t complete your course with that provider. This contract is very important – if you don’t start your course, or finish your course, this written agreement will be used to determine if you will receive a refund.
After you have accepted your Offer and paid your deposit you will receive an ‘Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment’ (eCoE) by email. This will outline your course start date, total course fees and how long your course will run for.
Eligibility for applying to Australian Universities
Undergraduate (Bachelor Level) Course
The two main points (besides English Language requirements) to be considered before applying to any course in a university :
Post Graduate (Master's & Doctorate level) Course
Masters degree and Graduate diploma:
Most Australian universities accept the Indian graduation system of three
years for entry into postgraduate courses. However, entry to postgraduate
programs is competitive and often complex. For most Universities, a good
first degree from a leading university in India or its equivalent is essential.
PhD and Postgraduate diploma:
For Postgraduate diploma, the student should have a recognized master
degree in an appropriate field. For PhD, though each application is assessed
on individual basis, a good master degree is essential.
