KEAM (Kerala Engineering Agriculture Medical Entrance Examination) : Eligibility

Academic Qualification : 

(a) Medical & Allied Courses : 

(i) For MBBS/ BDS Courses, the criteria of eligibility [Academic/ NEET(UG)] will be as notified by the CBSE for NEET (UG)/Medical Council of India (MCI) from time to time. 

(ii) For admission to other Medical Courses (BAMS, BSMS, BHMS): Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or examinations recognised equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together, are eligible. In the absence of Biology, Biotechnology will be considered for the courses BAMS and BSMS. 

(iii) For admission to B.Sc.Hon (Agri), B.Sc.Hon (Forestry), BFSc courses: Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or examinations recognised equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together, are eligible.

(iv) For admission to BVSc. & AH Course, candidates should have secured not less than 50% aggregate marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for the qualifying examination, in addition to the condition as stipulated in clause (i) as per regulation 5 of Minimum standards of Veterinary Education Degree Course (BVSc & AH) Regulation, 1993. 

(v) Candidates who have passed the BSc Degree (Three year course) examination with Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany or Biotechnology as Main, and any one or two of the above subjects as Subsidiaries, with 50% marks for Main & Subsidiaries taken together, subject to the condition that they have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or examinations recognised as equivalent thereto with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects are eligible for admission to BAMS, BHMS & BSMS courses. 

(b) Engineering courses: 

[Including B.Tech (Ag. Engg.) and B.Tech (Food Engg.) courses under the Kerala Agricultural University and B. Tech (Dairy Sc. &Technology) under Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University]. 

(i) Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics separately, and 50 % marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission 

(ii) Candidates who have Diploma in Engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Examinations, or an examination recognised equivalent thereto, by the State Board of Technical Education after undergoing an institutional course of at least 3 years from an Institution approved by AICTE, securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final year Diploma Examination are eligible for admission to the special reservation quota (DE)

(iii) Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or examinations recognised as equivalent thereto, with 50 % marks in Mathematics/ Biology separately, and 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology put together are eligible for admission to the seats reserved for Dairy Farm Instructors of Dairy Development Department for B.Tech. (D.Sc. & Tech). However, the candidates admitted to the course have to take a make-up course in Basic Mathematics (2+0) credits or Applied Biology (1+1) credit as the case may be. 

Note: 

  1.  Diploma in Engineering is not recognised as the academic eligibility for admission to the Engineering Colleges affiliated to Kerala Agricultural University and Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University.
  2. The Vocational Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, has been recognised as equivalent to the Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala. 
  3. In the case of nominees of Government of India and nominees of reciprocal quota seats who are selected on the basis of the marks in the qualifying examination, the academic eligibility as specified in clause (i)

(c) Architecture course : 

Minimum academic eligibility for admission to B. Arch. Course: 

(i) 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised Board with Mathematics as a subject of study by securing 50% marks in aggregate. OR 10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognised by Central/State Governments with 50% aggregate marks. OR International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination. 

(ii) In addition to the academic eligibility prescribed above, only those candidates 
who score 40 % or 80 marks out of 200 (for all categories of candidates) in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) will be considered for admission to B. Arch. course. There is no relaxation in the minimum passing score of NATA to any category of candidate. 

(iii) There is no provision for lateral admission to the second year or at any stage during the 5 year course in Architecture. 

(iv) Candidates who have a Diploma in Engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Examinations, or an examination recognized equivalent thereto, by the State Board of Technical Education after undergoing an institutional course of at least 3 years from an Institution approved by AICTE securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final year Diploma Examination are eligible for admission to B.Arch. Course. 

Candidates seeking admission to B.Arch. course should also submit the Application form to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. There is no State level Entrance Examination for this purpose. However such candidates should write the National Aptitude Test for Architecture and should forward the NATA score and mark list of the qualifying examination to the CEE on or before the specified date. 

Age Limit

The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December, at the year of admission. 

Nativity

Applicant should be an Indian citizen. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card Holders will be treated on par with Indian citizens for the limited purpose of admission. 

Both Keralites and Non-Keralites are eligible to apply for the Entrance Examination. Applicants of Kerala origin will be categorized as ‘Keralites’ and others will be categorized as ‘Non-Keralites’. Non-Keralites are classified as ‘Non-Keralite Category-I’ and ‘Non-Keralite Category-II’. 

(A) Keralites :- A candidate of Kerala origin will be categorized as a Keralite. A candidate will be considered as a ’Keralite’, for the limited purpose of eligibility for admission. Children of All India Service (AIS) officers (Non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala cadre are deemed to be ‘Keralites’. But they will not be eligible for Communal/Special/Persons with Disabilities reservation. Such Candidates should produce a certificate from the competent authority showing that the parent of the candidate is an AIS officer allotted to Kerala cadre. 

(B) Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) : A candidate who is not of Kerala origin but fulfils anyone of the following conditions will be categorised as 'Non-Keralite Category I'(NK I). 
(i) A candidate who has undergone qualifying course in Kerala and who is son/daughter of Non- Keralite parents belong to Government of India/Defence Service, posted to Kerala. 
(ii) A candidate who has undergone qualifying course in Kerala and who is son/daughter of Non- Keralite parents who are serving/served Government of Kerala for a minimum period of two years. 
(iii) A candidate who is not of Kerala Origin but has been a resident of Kerala State for a period of 5(five) years within the period of 12(twelve) years. 
(iv) A candidate who is not of Kerala Origin but who has undergone his/her school studies in Kerala from standard VIII to XII.

Non-Keralite Category I candidates will be considered against ‘State Merit’ seats for 
Engineering/Medical & Allied courses and will not be eligible for Communal/ Special/Persons with Disabilities reservation. 

(C) Non-Keralite Category-II (NK II) :- Candidates who do not belong to the ‘Keralite’ or ‘Non- Keralite Category-I’ will be treated as ‘Non-Keralite Category-II'. They are eligible for admission ONLY to the ‘State Merit’ seats in the Private Self-financing Engineering Colleges in the State and in the Management Quota seats in Self-financing Engineering institutions under Government control. They will not be considered for admission against Communal/ Special/Persons with Disabilities reservation seats.

Relaxation in Marks:

Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Candidates whose annual 
family income is not more than Rs.4.5 lakhs as per GO(P) No.208/66/Edn. Dated.02/05/1966 and amendments thereof are eligible for relaxation in marks in the qualifying examination. 

(a) For admission to MBBS/BDS Courses the criteria of relaxation in marks for SEBC/SC/ST and PD candidates in the qualifying examination will be as notified by the CBSE for NEET(UG)-/ MCI from time to time. However, the inclusion of candidates under SEBC,SC/ ST and PD categories will be as per KEAM  Prospectus, provided that they are included in the Kerala State Rank list of NEET (UG). 

(b) For all courses except MBBS/ BDS, the SEBC candidates and PD candidates with Locomotory disability of lower limbs between 40% and 70% will have a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination. They need only 45% marks in the case of Mathematics separately and 45% marks for optional subjects put together for admission to Engineering courses and 45% marks in optional subjects put together for Medical & Allied courses. The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination. Provided that in cases where only grades are given for qualifying examination and marks are not mentioned, the grade covering 45% marks will be considered as criterion for eligibility. The relaxation of marks in the qualifying examination extended to SEBC candidates only will be applicable to OEC candidates even if they are allotted against the un-availed seats of SC/ST quota.
