Candidates (only Men) who are matriculates (passed tenth standard) or even less than tenth standard have opportunities to join as an Airman in either Combatant Group 'Y' or Combatant Group 'Z' of the Technical or Non- Technical trades. Depending on the Performance, they can later move to other Combatant Groups or become an officer.
Common Eligibility Criteria for Combatant Group 'Y' or Combatant Group 'Z' of the Technical or Non- Technical trades
Less than tenth standard :
The only opportunity for a candidate with education of less than the tenth standard is as a musician in the the Air Force band, which is a part of the Non-Technical trade under Combatant Group 'Z'. In the band, one is trained to play different musical instruments. But the candidate has an opportunity of later moving to Combatant Group 'X' or 'Y' or even become an officer.
Eligibility to join the Musician Trade :
Matriculate (Tenth Standard):
Candidates who have passed tenth standard, can join the Technical or Non-Technical Trades under Combatant Group 'Y'. Besides the common eligibility criteria, each trade has their criteria of the educational qualification.
Technical Trades
As an airman under the Technical Trades, you would be involved in
the production and testing of aircraft and flying related equipment. You
would be directly or indirectly responsible for the maintenance and overhaul
of armament and ground equipment.
Educational Qualification
Non-Technical Trades
As an airman in the non-technical trades, you would assist and support
officers in the Air Force. You should fulfill the following requirements
to apply for the post of airman in the Non-Technical Trades:

Mechanical Transport Driver
This trade comes under the category of Non-Technical Trades. However,
the selection criteria is slightly different from that of other Non-Technical
Trades under Combatant Group 'Y'.
