The recruitment of Asst. Commandants is conducted twice a year in the month of January/ February and August/ September. The advertisement for the recruitment will be given in all leading national newspapers in both Hindi as well as in English.
The short listed candidates are called for Preliminary Selection Board (PSB) as per their choice of centers from Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata , Delhi, Kochi, Vizag and Port Blair. The PSB consists of Mental Ability Test, Group Dicussion and Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT). The candidates who qualify PSB are called for Final Selection Board (FSB) at Mumbai/ Chennai/ Delhi. The candidates, subject to their medical fitness are selected as per merit list.

The recruitment for the normal posts (Yantriks & Naviks) in Indian Coast Guard is conducted bi-annually in the month of April and October. The advertisement for the recruitment will be given in employment news all over India, both in Hindi as well as in English in the month of January and November.
Interested candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria must forward their application in prescribed format given in the advertisement, with one additional recent coloured passport size photograph along with attested Xerox copies of all necessary certificates to the respective address of zonal recruitment centre by ordinary post only.
The recruitment for Yantrik will be conducted in ten centers all over India, viz New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Vizag, Kochi, Paradip, Tuticorin, Gandhinagar, and Nagpur. The short listed candidates are called for selection tests at centre of their choice. These candidates are subjected to a written test and the qualifying candidates have to undergo interview and medical examination. If qualified they are selected as per merit list.
The recruitment for Naviks will be conducted in 6 zones
viz., Western Zone, Eastern Zone, North-Eastern Zone, A&N Zone, North
West Zone and North Zone. Selection of candidates is based on the order
of merit depending on their performance in Written Test, Physical Fitness
Test (PFT) and Fitness in the Medical Examinations. The short listed candidates
are called for selection tests (written test) at convenient centre at
various zones. These candidates are subjected to Mental Ability Test (Verbal
& Non-Verbal), (only Non- Verbal in case of DB), entrance test and
interview. During the written test and interview the candidates have the
option of answering in Hindi/English. The qualified candidates are to
undergo medical examination, those who clear the medical examination are
selected as per merit list.
Written Test - The objective type question paper will
be bilingual (Hindi and English) and consists of English, Science, Maths
and General Knowledge.
Duration of the Test (Total 1 & 1/2 hour) : Mental Ability Test -
30 minutes; Written Test - 1 hour (Candidates are required to pass in
both the tests)
Physical Fitness Test (PFT) - All those who pass the
written test will be subjected to the PFT
PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 6 minutes 30 seconds;
20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak); 10 Push ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will
do so at their own risk.
Interview - Candidates clearing the above tests will
appear for interview
