Recruitment of sailors in Indian Navy is application based and is carried out on the All India Merit on the basis of a Written Examination, Physical Fitness Test and Medical Examination. Recruitment publicity is carried out on all India basis through advertisements in all leading National & Regional newspapers and Employment News in December / January and June/ July every year. Publicity material is also dispatched to a large number of schools / colleges and all Zilla Sainik Boards. The local administration carries out the publicity drive in rural / backward areas through local media.
How to Apply :
The application form in the prescribed format may be typed on plain paper
or downloaded from the website of Indian Navy. The forms will be published
in important Newspapers. Candidates applying for more than one type of
entry are required to submit separate applications. However, only one
application form is to be filled for a particular entry. Choice of entry
is to be clearly indicated on the application form. You can apply only
for one entry between MR Cook / MR Steward/ NMR Topass in a batch. All
applications for AA and SSR, MR, MUS, NMR are to be addressed to the authority
promulgated and should reach the authority only through ordinary post.

Indian Navy conducts recruitment for enrolling sailor recruits at 34 examination centres across the country. Candidates are permitted to appear for examination at one centre for recruitment in accordance with the domicile certificate issued by the District level Government authorities.
Call-Up letters, indicating date, time and place for examination as scheduled are sent to the eligible shortlisted candidates.

Written Exam
Written exam will be conducted at the designated centre on the promulgated
date and time. The objective type 60 minutes duration question paper will
be bilingual (Hindi & English) and comprise of four sections i.e.
English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
The Non Matric entry question paper will of 40 minutes duration and it comprise two sections i.e. Mathematics and General Knowledge.
The candidates are required to pass in all sections and in aggregate.
Physical Fitness Tests (PFT)
Candidates who qualify the written test are permitted to undergo PFT which
consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 25 squat ups (Uthak
Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their
own risk. Those who qualify PFT, are taken for Medical Examination.
Medical Test
Entry level Medical standards are different for different entries. Medical
examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical
standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.
Candidates declared temporary unfit during medical examination can avail
specialist review from the specified Military hospital within a maximum
period of 21 days. Those who declared permanent unfit can appeal for specialist
opinion in a Military Hospital on payment of a requisite amount by Military
Receivable Order (MRO) in the Government Treasury within 21 days. Medical
fitness certificate from other than that of the specialist opinion in
the designated Military Hospital will NOT be considered.
All the selected candidates, prior to enrolment, have to undergo a Final Enrolment Medical examination at INS Chilka (Orissa).
The Director of Music (DOM) at INS Kunjali will be responsible for conduct of recruitment for Musician sailors as per schedule promulgated by IHQ MOD (Navy). All applications for MR (Musician) entry has to be addressed to The Commanding Officer, (for Director of Music), INS Kunjali, Colaba, Mumbai - 400 005.
Application procedure and selection procedure for MR (Musician) entry is same as that of AA/ SSR/ MR/ NMR entry.
The preliminary screening and Medical examination would be carried out
at following Naval Recruitment Establishments (NREs) by a team nominated
by DOM.
